Hi All,
Thanks for visiting projectimprobable.com. This boat has been in and out of my life since I was 15 years old (when I first read of the victory in the Miami to Montego Bay race). Fate would lead my dad, Leonard Schwab, to buy the boat from original owner Dave Allen in 1976. I was over the moon, as Improbable was then already a legend to me and many others.
Now, many years later, now that my dad has passed away, I'm determined to bring Improbable to the highest performance level possible. All in the spirit of fast safe & easy sailing that was the mindset of the original conceivers of the boat. Much of the work is simply bringing things back to original, and some of it is upgrading areas where yacht design developments since 1970 will fit right into Improbable's original philosophy.
This project would not be possible without the help of contributors, collaborators, volunteers, friends, and especially without the support Jim Betts of James Betts Enterprises. Having Improbable located at such a capable facility is amazing; with skilled composites experts, systems installers, NC machinists, carpenters, etc. all in one bustling place. Watching the wonderful new yachts take shape there is great inspiration to make Improbable all she can be.
My dad first let me modify the rudder in the early 80's...see below...now the mission is to finish what I started all those years ago. And yes, I've learned a lot since then. All of which I intend to put into Improbable.
Bruce,
Was modifying the rudder in the early 80's your vision or your Dad's?
I'm inspired.
